Creating & Editing Products in the Catalog
Add and edit the products in your catalog from either the mobile app or the Web Portal — both write to the same product list.
1. Adding a Product (Mobile App)
- Go to Config > Products.
- Tap + Add Product at the bottom of the list.
- Fill in the fields that apply:
- Name and Price ($) — required.
- Icon / Emoji — tap the preview to open a picker with Standard and Custom tabs (custom emojis are uploaded in the Web Portal — see the custom emoji article).
- Unit Label — for per-unit products, a preset (
each,oz,bunch, pint, quart, jar, bag, dozen, loaf, stem, box) or your own text. By-weight products are always priced per pound, so their unit is fixed tolband isn't editable here (see the unit-vs-weight pricing article). - Pricing Type — Per unit or By weight (see the unit-vs-weight pricing article for how this affects checkout).
- Category (optional) — search existing categories or create a new one inline (see the categories article).
- Bundle Pricing (optional, unit items only) — e.g. 3 for $20.00.
- Status — Active, Seasonal, or Archived.
- SKU / Barcode (optional) — type one in or tap the scan icon to capture it with the camera.
- Description (optional).
- Tax Exempt and Track Inventory toggles.
- Tap Save.
Tapping an existing row instead of + Add Product opens the same form pre-filled for editing. Existing products also show a Sales section (for products on sale) and, at the bottom, an Archive Product button.
2. Adding a Product (Web Portal)
- Go to Products in portal.membrzs.com.
- Click + New Product.
- Fill in Name, Pricing Type (Per Unit / By Weight), Price, and (for unit items) Unit Label.
- Optionally set Emoji / Icon (typed emoji or a pasted image URL), Category (search existing or create new inline), Barcode / SKU, Bundle Pricing, Description, and Tax exempt.
- Click Create Product.
To edit a product, click Edit on its row in the Products table. The Status dropdown (Active/Seasonal/Archived) only appears once you're editing an existing product — for a quick archive/reactivate without opening the full form, use the Archive / Activate link on the product's row instead. The Products page also has a category filter dropdown for browsing a large catalog.
Have a lot of products to add or update at once? See the bulk product/sale upload article — it covers uploading a whole catalog from a spreadsheet, including setting categories by name.
3. Notes on Editing
- Both mobile and Portal treat product edits as a full save — the current values for every field are sent each time, so open the product, make your change, and save from that same form rather than assuming an untouched field is left alone.
- Sale pricing is managed separately from the main product form, from the Sales section on that product's own edit screen (+ Add Sale, or click an existing sale row to correct/pause/resume/end it) — it doesn't use the Save button on the rest of the form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to fill in every field?
No — only Name and Price are required. Everything else (emoji, barcode, description, bundle pricing, tax-exempt, category) is optional.
What's the difference between the mobile app and Web Portal product forms?
They cover the same fields with one exception: the mobile app lets you pick from your uploaded custom emoji gallery directly; the Web Portal's emoji field is a plain text/URL input. Otherwise, either one works for day-to-day catalog management.
Who can create or edit products?
Owners and Managers.
