Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Add a second layer of security to your Membrzs account with an authenticator app, email code, or SMS code.
1. Where to Set It Up
- Mobile: Go to Config > Account > Two-Factor Authentication.
- Web Portal: Go to Account and select the Two-Factor Auth tab.
Both show the same status banner — "Two-Factor Authentication is On" or "Off" — and let you enroll or disable from there.
2. Choosing a Verification Method
Three methods are available:
- Authenticator App — Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or any TOTP app.
- Email Code — a 6-digit code sent to your email address at sign-in.
- SMS Text Message — a 6-digit code sent to your phone number at sign-in. If you don't have a phone number on file yet, you'll be asked to add and verify one first.
Pick a method and tap Continue.
3. Setting Up an Authenticator App (TOTP)
- Step 1 — Add to Authenticator App: scan the QR code with a second device, or, if you're setting up on the same phone, open your authenticator app, choose "Enter setup key," and paste in the secret key shown below the QR code.
- Step 2 — Verify the Code: enter the 6-digit code your authenticator app is now showing, then tap Verify & Enable 2FA.
- Step 3 — Save Your Backup Codes: a set of one-time backup codes is shown. Store them somewhere safe — they won't be shown again, and each can be used once if you lose access to your authenticator app. Check "I have saved my backup codes" to finish.
4. Setting Up Email or SMS Codes
Select Email Code or SMS Text Message, tap Continue, and a 6-digit code is sent immediately. Enter it on the next screen and tap Verify & Enable 2FA. You can tap Resend code if it doesn't arrive, or Change method to go back and pick a different option.
5. Disabling MFA
From the "Two-Factor Authentication is On" screen, enter your current password and tap Disable 2FA. You'll get a confirmation prompt first, since this reduces your account's security.
6. Organization-Required MFA
If your workspace requires MFA, you'll see a Two-Factor Authentication Required screen after signing in until you enroll. During the grace period you can tap Continue to App or Remind Me Later, but you'll eventually be required to complete setup at Config > Account > Two-Factor Authentication to keep signing in.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I lose my phone and can't get a code?
Use one of your saved backup codes (TOTP method only) to sign in, then set up MFA again on your new device from Config > Account > Two-Factor Authentication.
Can I switch methods later?
Yes — disable your current method with your password, then set up a different one the same way.
