Price History & Session Markdowns

Every price change on a product is tracked automatically — whether it's a permanent update you make on the Products page, or a temporary markdown or markup you apply for just today's market. Both show who changed the price, when, and what it changed to.

1. Two Kinds of Price Change

  • Base price — the price you set on the product itself, on the Products page (app or portal). This is permanent, applies to every future session, and is what customers pay until you change it again.
  • Session markdown / markup — a temporary adjustment that applies only to the session you're currently running. It's meant for in-the-moment decisions — marking produce down as a market winds toward close, for example, or marking a nearly-sold-out item up. It never touches the product's real base price, and it stops applying the moment that session ends.

You don't have to choose one or the other — a product's base price can stay exactly where you set it, and still get marked down for a single busy Saturday without any lasting change.

2. Price History (Base Price)

Every time you save a product with a different price than it had before, that's logged automatically — nothing to turn on. Open the product for editing (Products in the app, or the Products page in the portal) and you'll see a Price History list showing each past change with the date it happened.

There's nothing to configure here. It's a read-only record that builds itself as you adjust pricing over time — useful for seeing whether a price change actually helped or hurt sales of that item.

3. Session Markdowns & Markups

During an open session, tap the session menu (the session name at the top of POS) and choose 🏷️ Manage Markdowns. You'll see every product in the session, each with Mark Down and Mark Up buttons.

Tap one to open a small form:

  • Choose Percent (with quick preset buttons — 10%, 25%, 50%) or Fixed Price (enter the exact new price directly).
  • Tap Apply.

The product's price on the register updates immediately — its tile shows a MARKDOWN or ↑ MARKED UP badge with the new price, so every seller on the session sees the same adjusted price, not just whoever applied it.

Restoring the original price: tap Restore next to any adjusted product at any time during the session. The base price you set on the Products page is never affected — restoring just stops the temporary adjustment.

It's session-only, on purpose. There's nothing to "turn off" at the end of the day — once you close the session, pricing is back to normal for the next one automatically.

4. Who Can Apply a Markdown or Markup

Owners and Managers only. Available on every plan — it's not a paid-tier feature, since it's really about running a single market day well, not about plan size. Sellers and Viewers can see the adjusted price on the register like anyone else, but only an Owner or Manager can apply, change, or restore one.

5. Seeing It All Together (Portal)

On a product's edit page in the portal, the Price Timeline shows both kinds of change merged into one chronological list — a permanent base-price edit, a session markdown, a markup, and a restore, each labeled and in order. If you're trying to answer "what actually happened to this product's price this month," this is the place to look — no need to check two separate places.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a session markdown change what I'm charging tomorrow?

No. It only applies while that specific session is open. Once you close it, the next session starts at the product's normal base price, with no extra step needed.

Can I mark something up instead of down?

Yes — the same Manage Markdowns screen has a Mark Up option, useful for something that's nearly sold out and you'd rather sell the last few at a premium than run out too early.

If I undo a markdown, does that erase the record that it happened?

No. Restoring a price is itself logged, just like applying one — the full sequence (marked down, then restored, for example) stays visible in the product's Price Timeline in the portal.

Can a Seller apply a markdown during a busy rush?

Not directly — only an Owner or Manager can apply or restore one. A Seller can still see whatever price is currently active on the register.

Does this affect receipts?

Yes — a marked-down item shows its discounted price on the receipt line, the same way a sale or item discount does. A marked-up item shows its adjusted price too, without the "you got a deal" styling a discount uses, since it's the opposite.
