Adding Customer Notes to Orders

There's currently no field in Membrzs Market for attaching a free-text note or special instruction to an individual order at checkout. This article explains what's actually there today, so you know what to expect instead of a feature that doesn't exist.

1. What Doesn't Exist

Neither the cart nor any checkout modal (cash, card, split tender, or manual card entry) has a "notes," "instructions," or "comment" field tied to a specific order. If you're looking for a way to jot down something like "customer wants no onions" or "will pick up Friday" against a single sale, that capability isn't built yet.

2. What's Available Instead

A few related things do exist, and may cover what you actually need:

  • Getting a receipt to the customer: After completing a card sale, the receipt screen lets you choose Email or Text and enter the customer's address or phone number to send them a receipt. This is per-order, but it's for receipt delivery, not a notes field.
  • Notes on the session itself: When opening a session, there's an optional Notes field (e.g. for weather or location notes) — but this is scoped to the whole session, not to an individual order or customer, and isn't visible to customers.
  • Reasons on discounts and comps: Discounting or comping a cart item requires a short reason (e.g. "Damaged item"), which is stored with that line — see the discounts, sales & comps article. It's not a general-purpose notes field, but it is the closest thing to order-level annotation that exists today.
