Cash Payment Checkout & Change Calculator
Accept cash at the register with a built-in change calculator, and keep working even when you're offline.
1. Turning On Cash Payments
The Cash button only appears on the register once cash sales are enabled for your account:
- Go to Config > Operations (account owners only).
- Under Payments, turn on Accept Cash — "Show the cash payment button on the register and include cash in session reconciliation."
- Tap Save.
If this is off, the checkout footer only shows Charge Card and Other….
2. Taking a Cash Sale
- Add items to the cart on the POS screen.
- Tap Cash in the checkout footer.
- The Cash Payment window shows the Total Due. Enter the Amount Tendered — what the customer physically handed you.
- As you type, the modal calculates the result automatically:
- Change Due — the amount to hand back, shown in green.
- Exact change — no change due — if the tendered amount matches exactly.
- Amount is short by $X.XX — shown in red if the tendered amount isn't enough; Record Sale stays disabled until you enter enough.
- Tap Record Sale to complete the transaction.
3. Cash Sales Work Offline
Unlike card and split-tender payments, cash sales don't need an internet or reader connection — they're the fallback that keeps you selling when connectivity drops:
- If the app loses its connection, you'll see an "Offline — cash sales queued" banner (with a running count) at the top of the register. Cash sales keep recording locally.
- Once you're back online, queued sales sync automatically — you'll briefly see "Syncing N queued orders…".
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I tap Record Sale?
The amount tendered is less than the total due. Enter an amount equal to or greater than the Total Due shown at the top of the modal.
Does a cash sale need a card reader connected?
No. Cash sales don't touch Stripe or the reader at all, which is why they're the one payment method that keeps working offline.
Where do I see my cash totals for the session?
Session-level cash totals, pulls, and drops are tracked from the session menu — see your Session History and cash reconciliation tools under Config > Session History.
