Understanding Card & Platform Fee Breakdowns

Every plan pays a card processing cost on top of Stripe's own rate, but only Enterprise vendors get that cost itemized as visible Card fee / Platform fee line items on orders and receipts. Separately, a Tap to Pay fee is itemized for every plan whenever a transaction is actually collected via Tap to Pay — see section 4 below.

1. Who Sees an Itemized Fee Breakdown

Card fee and platform fee amounts are only recorded on the order — and therefore only ever shown — for vendors on the Enterprise plan. On Freemium, Lite, Premium, and Team, Membrzs's cut is built into the per-transaction rate automatically (via Stripe's application_fee_amount) rather than being tracked or displayed as a separate dollar line on any order, receipt, or invoice. If you're not on Enterprise, this isn't something you need to configure — there's simply no itemized card/platform breakdown to show, because those plans don't charge a configurable per-vendor fee.

2. Where the Breakdown Appears (Enterprise)

For Enterprise vendors, whenever a card fee and/or platform fee applies to an order, it shows up consistently everywhere the order does:

  • Web Portal — expand an order on the Orders page; Card fee and Platform fee rows appear in the totals breakdown alongside Tax and Tip.
  • Mobile — same rows appear when you expand an order on the Orders tab.
  • Customer receipts — email, SMS, and the public online receipt page all include the same fee rows when the fee was charged to the buyer (see below).

3. Buyer-Pays vs. Vendor-Pays Fees

Enterprise vendors choose whether card and platform fees are charged to the buyer (added on top of the sale, shown as fee lines on the printed and emailed receipt) or absorbed from the vendor's payout instead. When a fee is deducted from your payout rather than charged to the customer, order rows in the Portal and mobile app label it accordingly — e.g. "Card fee (from your payout)" in the Portal, "Card fee (payout)" on mobile — so it's clear the number reflects what came out of your revenue, not what the customer was charged.

4. The Tap to Pay Fee (All Plans)

Unlike the Card fee / Platform fee breakdown above, the Tap to Pay fee isn't Enterprise-only — it's itemized as its own line item on Lite, Premium, Team, and Enterprise whenever a transaction is actually collected via Tap to Pay. It's a flat $0.15 per Tap to Pay transaction and appears as its own "Tap to Pay fee" row on order details and receipts, alongside Tax and Tip, separate from — and in addition to — any Card fee / Platform fee rows an Enterprise vendor also sees. Freemium's 5 free Tap to Pay sales per month are exempt — no $0.15 fee applies to them (see "Tap to Pay on the Freemium Plan"). On Enterprise, whether the fee is charged to the buyer or absorbed from your payout follows the same buyer-pays setting described in section 3.

5. Fee Line Items on Customer Receipts

Customer-facing receipts (email, SMS, and the public receipt page) only ever show fee amounts when the buyer was actually charged for them. If you've set fees to be absorbed from your payout instead, those fee rows are hidden from the customer's receipt entirely — they see exactly what they paid, with no fee lines that don't apply to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm on Premium/Team — why don't I see a Card fee / Platform fee breakdown anywhere?

That's expected. Itemized Card fee / Platform fee line items are an Enterprise-only capability. Every plan pays a processing cost, but on non-Enterprise plans it's built into the transaction rate rather than tracked as a separate visible amount. If you use Tap to Pay, you'll still see a separate Tap to Pay fee line — that one isn't Enterprise-only.

Can I let customers pay the processing fee instead of absorbing it myself?

For the Card fee / Platform fee breakdown, only on the Enterprise plan — that's the buyer-pays-fees setting described above. The same setting also controls whether the Tap to Pay fee is charged to the buyer or absorbed from your payout on Enterprise.
