Generating Tax Reports & Exporting CSV Files

The Tax Report tab in the Web Portal summarizes taxable vs. exempt revenue and tax collected for any date range, and lets you export it as a CSV for your accountant or bookkeeping software.

1. Running a Tax Report

  1. In the Web Portal, go to Reports in the sidebar, then click the Tax Report tab.
  2. Set a From and To date (the tab defaults to the 1st of the current month through today).
  3. Click Run Report.

The report is calculated only from orders with a succeeded payment in that range.

2. Reading the Summary

After running the report, four summary cards appear:

  • Tax Collected — total tax charged on orders in the range.
  • Taxable Revenue — order revenue (excluding tax) from non-exempt items.
  • Exempt Revenue — revenue from items or line items flagged as tax-exempt.
  • Orders — number of orders in the range.

If your account has orders across more than one market location, a "By Market Location" table also appears below the summary, breaking taxable revenue, exempt revenue, tax collected, and order count down per location — useful since each location may fall under a different local tax jurisdiction. Single-location accounts just see the summary cards; if there are simply no taxed orders in the range, the tab shows a "No orders with tax collected in this period" message instead.

3. Exporting to CSV

Once a report has loaded, an Export CSV button appears next to Run Report. Clicking it downloads a file named tax-report-<from>-to-<to>.csv containing:

  • A header row with the report's date range.
  • A totals row: Tax Collected, Taxable Revenue, Exempt Revenue, Gross Revenue, and Orders.
  • If more than one market location has activity, an additional By Location section with the same columns broken out per location.

This file opens directly in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets, or can be handed straight to a bookkeeper.

4. How Tax-Exempt Revenue Is Determined

A sale counts as exempt revenue if either the specific order line item or the product itself is marked tax-exempt in your product settings. Configure exemptions per-product under Config → Tax (Owner role only).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Tax Report include cash sales? Yes — it includes all orders with a succeeded payment regardless of payment method (card or cash).

Can Sellers or Managers run and export tax reports? Reports is accessible to Owners and Managers; check your account's role permissions if you don't see the Reports section in your sidebar.

Why doesn't my CSV have a By Location section? That section only appears when your account has more than one market location with tax activity in the selected range. Single-location vendors will only see the totals row.
