Setting Up Per-Unit vs. By-Weight Pricing

Choose whether a product sells as a fixed-price item or is priced by weight at checkout.

1. Setting the Pricing Type

In the product form (mobile Config > Products, or the Web Portal's Products page), the Pricing Type control is a two-way switch:

  • Per unit (mobile) / Per Unit (Portal) — the product has a fixed price, e.g. $5.00. Set a Unit Label to describe it on the catalog list (each, bunch, dozen, jar, etc. — pick a preset or type your own).
  • By weight (mobile) / By Weight (Portal) — the price you enter is charged per pound at checkout. Weight-priced products are always priced and entered in pounds — the Unit Label field is fixed to lb and isn't editable for by-weight products, since Membrzs doesn't currently convert between weight units (see the note below).

2. How Weight Pricing Works at Checkout

When a seller taps a by-weight product tile on the register, a weight-entry screen opens instead of adding it straight to the cart:

  1. It shows the product's price labeled as $X.XX / lb.
  2. The seller types the weight (in pounds) on the number pad.
  3. The line total updates live as the weight is entered.
  4. Tapping Add to Cart adds that line at the calculated price.

Note: If you sell something more naturally priced by the ounce or gram, price it per pound instead — e.g. a product that's really "$0.50/oz" should be entered as $8.00/lb ($0.50 × 16). Per-ounce (or other weight unit) pricing isn't supported yet.

3. Bundle Pricing (Per-Unit Products Only)

Per-unit products can optionally have bundle pricing — e.g. "3 for $20.00" alongside the regular single price. Set both a Qty (2 or more) and a Price in the product form; leave both blank to skip it. Bundle pricing isn't available on by-weight products, and if a product is actively on sale, the sale price takes priority over bundle pricing at checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change a product's pricing type after creating it?

Yes — edit the product and switch Pricing Type. Note that switching to By weight removes access to bundle pricing for that product (it's unit-only) and locks its Unit Label to lb, while switching to Per unit removes the weight-entry step at checkout and lets you set a Unit Label again.

Does the checkout grid show "$X.XX/lb" on the tile itself?

The tile shows the configured price; the "per lb" framing appears once you tap the tile and the weight-entry screen opens.

Can I price something per ounce or per gram instead of per pound?

Not directly today — convert your price to its per-pound equivalent when setting up the product (see the note in section 2). Support for other weight units is on the roadmap.
