Troubleshooting Offline Queue Syncing
What to do if offline cash transactions don't sync immediately after reconnecting to cellular data.
1. What Actually Gets Queued Offline
Membrzs Market is built to keep selling when your connection drops mid-market:
- Cash sales only. If a cash payment fails to reach Membrzs's servers because the network request itself fails, the app automatically stores it in a local offline queue on your device and marks the sale as queued rather than failed.
- Card payments are not queued. Card transactions (Tap to Pay, Stripe M2 reader, manual card entry, and the card portion of a split-tender sale) require a live connection to authorize the charge, so they cannot be completed offline. On the register screen, offline mode visibly disables the manual-entry/split-tender option.
- Discounts, comps, and tips attached to a cash sale are queued right along with it and sync as part of the same order — no separate action is needed for those.
2. How the App Detects You're Offline
The app doesn't rely on your phone's general "no bars" indicator. It flips into offline mode the moment a real request to Membrzs's servers fails to complete, and shows a banner at the top of the register screen:
⚡ Offline — cash sales queued (n)
While offline, the app quietly checks the connection every 30 seconds in the background. As soon as one of those checks succeeds, it flips back online and a second banner appears:

3. Getting a Stuck Queue to Sync
Syncing queued cash sales is fully automatic — there is no "Retry Sync" or "Sync Now" button anywhere in the app. If queued orders aren't clearing, work through these in order:
- Confirm you actually have a data connection. Check that cellular data (not just signal bars) is enabled for Membrzs Market, or reconnect to Wi-Fi. In a spotty part of the venue, walking toward the market's entrance or a known signal pocket often helps.
- Reopen the register screen. The sync check runs while the POS/register screen is active. If you navigated to another tab (Reader, Orders, Config) while offline, going back to the register screen re-triggers the connectivity check.
- Give it up to 30 seconds. Because the app polls for connectivity every 30 seconds while offline, a queued order can take up to that long to notice a restored connection — it isn't stuck, it just hasn't polled yet.
- Don't force-quit the app. The queue is saved to your device's local storage, so closing and reopening the app will not lose queued sales — but force-quitting mid-sync can leave an order retried on your next launch, which is expected and safe (a failed sync attempt simply leaves the order in the queue to try again).
- Check for a partial failure. If some orders synced and others didn't, the remaining ones stay in the queue and will retry automatically on the next successful connectivity check — no manual intervention required.
4. Signing Out With Unsynced Sales
To protect revenue data, Membrzs Market blocks sign-out while any cash sales are still queued. If you try to sign out with unsynced sales, you'll see:
Unsynced Sales — You have n unsynced offline sale(s). Connect to the internet and open the register screen so they can sync before logging out.
Reconnect, let the sync banner clear, and then sign out normally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose a sale if I never get a connection back?
No — queued cash sales are stored on your device and persist across app restarts. They'll sync the next time the app can reach Membrzs's servers, whenever that is.
Can two sellers on different phones end up with duplicate queued orders?
No. Each queued order is generated with a unique local ID on the device that created it, and only that device's queue is used to sync it.
Why does my Reader or Config tab look disabled while offline?
Reader setup and some Config-tab actions require a live connection and are intentionally grayed out until connectivity is restored — this is separate from the cash-sale queue, which works specifically because it doesn't need a live connection at the moment of sale.
